The Centro Makers Market — MKRS MRKT V4 / 17
A curated exposé of local talented and relevant makers of various disciplines. We’re inviting makers to bring their best work to this pop-up retail environment under tent and display their goods and ideas within a focused retailed situation.
Makers. Anyone making goods by hand using primarily local materials or ingredients with the goal of selling these goods in volume at prices accessible to their audience. This means so many things such as design objects, furniture, clothing, paper, prints, soaps, candles, food, spirits, beer and wine ~ and more. The makers are people in our local communities with the goal to make something of their own hands, and make a business of it. They make something they are passionate about and in such volumes that allow others to share in that passion. They are entrepreneurs building a new local economy. These people wake up nervous not knowing if anyone will ever care yet they are pulled back to the saw, the skillet, the serger, kiln, still and fermenter and make it happen. Because they love it. — We love them. And we wish to celebrate them.
We love creativity. We love productivity. We love local. We love people who create, produce and locally make a living from what they make. It’s exciting. It’s fresh. It’s the true entrepreneurial spirit that underpins this region.
Each summer we reveal and celebrate makers with an evening makers market. A retail forum to connect makers with the community — their audiences, to facilitate introductions, spur conversation and form new friendships. We create exposure and interest in not only what the makers do, but the idea that great things are conceptualized and made here. Right here in this area by people within ours and surrounding communities. We hope to inspire people to choose what the makers make for reasons of passion, connection, quality and a sense of place. This hopefully encourages others to do the same — To leave the car keys on the wall next week, stay home, fire up that saw and make their dream a reality.
Friday July 7th from 4pm to 10pm Where? Centro Parking, 437 Brant Street off of John Street, Burlington Downtown
Our effort will be to provide each maker with a space to tell their story through engagement with the audience and by displaying your best made goods. We will offer 3 space types:
1/ Tents: includes a 10×10 tent, table, sign and story stand that introduces you, your product and story. You’ll bring your best goods and a simple display if need be. The goal is to be simple, clean and focused on your product and ideas.
2/ Shared Tables: Either in a 10×10 or in the market place, a shared space or half of a table
3/ Exposé Shelves: a small collaborative retail display space that showcases a variety of maker’s best goods in an attractive simple manner to highlight the range of ideas and people producing amazing things. In all cases we invite makers to bring stock to sell but what’s important is to meet people, handout contact cards, make connections, start collaborations and most of all build a community and have a great time.
We are a cost neutral event in order to keep entry fees as low as possible.
1/ Tents – $100 2/ Shared Tables – $50 (must be arranged) 3/ Exposé Shelf – $30
See above for description. HST extra.
